Michael McDowell wins Cup Series race at Indy Road Course
Running a race he knew he could win, Michael McDowell held off Chase Elliott in Sunday’s Verizon 200 at the Brickyard and grabbed a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.
The No. 34 Front Row Motorsports driver led 54 of 82 laps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course in a race that featured just one caution and ran under the green flag for the final 77 laps.

In this case, the fastest car — Ty Gibbs’ No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota — decisively won the battle over the craftiness of AJ Allmendinger as the two full-time NASCAR Cup Series drivers stole the show — and potential playoff points — from Xfinity regulars in the Pennzoil 150 presented by Advance Auto Parts.
IRON MAN DIXON EXTENDS STREAK WITH IMPROBABLE WIN AT INDY
Six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Dixon rallied from a spin into the grass after being collected in an accident on Lap 1 to win the Gallagher Grand Prix in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Dixon, from New Zealand, extended his INDYCAR SERIES record streak to 19 consecutive seasons with at least one victory on a day when he also set a series record with his 319th consecutive start.
